VAHAN may be a national vehicle registry which was launched back in 2011 by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways together with the National Informatics CentreAs per the official website of VAHAN, it holds data of more than 25 crore motor vehicles, in respect to their registration certificates.

As of March 2020, there's a complete of 285,768,212 digitized vehicles on the Vahan website. This includes all vehicles registered in the country, such as cars, bikes, auto rickshaws, cabs, buses and more. It was launched with the target of collating all details associated with automobile registration certificates and driving licenses from the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and District Transport Offices (DTOs) across India.

As of 2019, it has collated these details from nearly 90% of such offices pan-India.

One of the few important things associated with buying and driving a vehicle is getting it duly registered. To do so, you want to obtain a Registration Certificate (RC) for your vehicle. According to the automobiles Act, 1988, it's mandatory for all vehicle owners to possess an RC against their vehicle so as to drive it. How to check vehicle registration information/ RC details online: A step-by-step guide

It is very simple to see vehicle RC details online. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways created the Vahan e-service portal that is a centralised national register for all registered vehicles within the country. Through this online portal, users can get to understand vehicle details on our Vahan Jankari application.
